Minneapolis/St. Paul ranked third on Travel + Leisure magazine’s annual list of “America’s favorite cities” based on ratings by visitors to the metro area.
 
Meanwhile, the Twin Cities ranked 12th based on ratings of those who reside in the metro area. Respondents were asked to identify whether they live in or had visited the cities they rated.
 
Travel + Leisure developed an online survey through which readers rated 35 U.S. metropolitan areas in various categories, including shopping, restaurants, nightlife, quality of life, and walkable streets.
 
Visitors rated the Twin Cities an average of 4.24 out of a maximum 5 points, while residents rated it 4.16. In a number of categories, the metro area received the highest average ratings among all cities from both visitors and residents. Those categories are public parks and outdoor access, summer, cleanliness, and home décor and design stores. Other areas in which the metro area scored high include drivability, pet-friendly vacations, gay-friendliness, and free attractions.
 
Nashville, Tennessee topped the favorite cities list based on ratings by visitors, while San Juan, Puerto Rico received the highest average rating based on resident votes. To view the full lists, click here.
