The acquisition of TCF by Huntington National Bank, two years after the hometown financial institution gave up its Wayzata headquarters in a merger with Detroit-based Chemical Financial Corp., may seem like the end of an era, but actually it brings TCF veteran Mike Jones back to the Twin Cities to lead a major ramp-up of services in this market. Jones says 85 percent of the original TCF team is working for Columbus, Ohio-based Huntington, and he expects to add around 200 positions in the Minnetonka and Plymouth offices over the next three to five years as he builds out wealth management, middle-market banking services, and specialties such as health care that consumer-focused TCF didn’t offer. Jones, who sits on Greater MSP’s Forge North Leadership Council, says, “I think we have a great opportunity to bring a full banking product and capabilities suite to companies in the Twin Cities.”
