After launching a fast-forward marketing business and a co-working space in Colorado, Megan Kellin returned to her hometown of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to be close to family. She and her husband, Lewis, thought living in northern Minnesota would “slow us down a little bit,” she says. It hasn’t. By listening to “what the community needed,” the entrepreneurial Kellin established the Hotel Rapids, a woodsy-stylish hostelry, as well as an event venue, Little Lazy Lodge. She has also started two magazines (Lake and Company and Lake Bride) and the North-chic-retailer Lake & Company, now with five stores. Now the Kellins are making plans to expand the hotel and open a co-working space.
