As a boy, Janssen Hang was involved in his family’s vegetable farming business. He remained in the agriculture industry after he graduated in 2001 from St. Olaf with degrees in biology and Asian studies. He’s the co-founder of West St. Paul-based HAFA, which gives Hmong farmers more market clout. “We work with over 100 Hmong farmers and we use a community organizing model to put our farmers on a more equitable footing with their white counterparts,” Hang says. In 2022, he’ll work to help them rebound from this year’s drought and operational hurdles created by the pandemic.
