South Dakota Paralegal Firm Opens Mpls. Office

Rapid City, South Dakota-based Black Hills IP, LLC opened its first Minnesota office in the TCF Tower in downtown Minneapolis.

Black Hills IP, LLC, a Rapid City, South Dakota-based paralegal outsourcing firm, on Monday opened a training, service, and administration office in the TCF Tower in downtown Minneapolis.

Black Hills IP provides paralegal services to intellectual property law firms and in-house legal departments.

The new Minneapolis office is the company's first in Minnesota and only its second location after its corporate office. It will open a third office in Rapid City on Friday.

The company said the openings reflect its “unprecedented growth.” Black Hills attributes its growth to the fact that most intellectual property law firms-which previously turned to firms in India and other countries for legal support services-are now hiring firms in the United States instead.

This week alone, the outsourcing firm added four new clients, Leon Steinberg, chairman of Black Hills, told the Pioneer Press.

The new Minneapolis office will have a staff of 10, all of whom have been relocated from its corporate headquarters. The company said it plans to add about 25 employees in 2012.

Black Hills is majority-owned by partners of the Minneapolis-based intellectual property law firm Schwegman, Lundberg & Woessner, according to the Pioneer Press.

The 41-employee firm's legal support services include intellectual property docketing, paralegal, patent proofreading, and annuity management services.
