Social Network: Marketplace’s Chris Farrell
Chris Farrell is one of the most recognized and respected financial voices: locally on MPR and nationally on his syndicated show, Marketplace. He’s also the author of five books on personal finance. He frequently posts about economics on LinkedIn, the social platform he uses the most. In turn, he uses social media—and, increasingly, Substack—to keep up with journalists, economists, and community activists (“especially in the positive aging space”). Here are a few of his favorites.
Substack | Second Rough Draft by Richard Tofel
The founding general manager and former president of ProPublica is thoughtful about the media business, Farrell says. “He has an informed sense about what newsrooms do well and what they can do better.”
Substack | Paul Krugman
“Nobel laureate Paul Krugman seems unleashed now that he has left the New York Times. He is prolific yet always thoughtful. He’s a master at the art of economic explanation. I try to learn from him.”
Substack | The Big Picture by Joseph Weber
“A highlight are the columns he has written on the topic of academia, free speech, and antisemitism. Genuine insights.”
Podcast | The Memory Palace by Nate DiMeo
“His short, narrative essays bring to life memorable moments from America’s past. The best approach is to randomly pick an episode and enjoy!”
