Sezzle Opens Office in Canada

The company appointed Paypal and Salesforce veteran Patrick Chan to lead its new Canadian headquarters in Toronto.

Minneapolis-based payments solution platform Sezzle last week announced that it’s opening a new Canadian headquarters in Toronto.

The company picked PayPal veteran Patrick Chan to lead the new office, which will be located in the city’s downtown financial district. Sezzle will continue staffing the new location over the next few months.

Sezzle first announced plans to enter the Canadian market in June. The company offers a “buy now, pay later” service that enables shoppers to divide purchases into interest-free installments that can be spread out over six weeks

The three-year-old company currently partners with more than 3,300 U.S. retail partners and counts more than 200,000 consumer users.

The Toronto headquarters opening follows another big market move by Sezzle: In late July, the company listed on the Australian stock exchange. It netted a $30 million initial public offering before listing and saw its stock grow 80 percent after the launch of the IPO, according to the Australian Financial Review.

As Sezzle turns its gaze toward Canada, Patrick Chan will be tasked with driving business and bringing solutions to market in the U.S.’s northern neighbor. Youakim said Chan was the “ideal” person for the job.

“He is a marquee talent who brings years of relevant experience in the payments and broader e-commerce space, knows the Canadian market extremely well, and understands our corporate culture, which is based on financial empowerment, transparency, and stakeholder collaboration,” said co-founder and CEO Charlie Youakim in a press release.

Chan comes to Sezzle from experience management software company Qualtrics, where he served as the enterprise account executive. Prior to that, Chan held senior leadership positions at PayPal and Salesforce.
