Gary Olson served in the Minnesota and North Dakota National Guards for more than 30 years. During that time, his assignments included serving as a weapons systems officer and deploying to Bosnia on a NATO peacekeeping mission. After leaving the National Guard, Olson served as director of U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s hiring center for more than 11 years. In March 2022, he transitioned to the role of deputy executive director of the talent management directorate for CBP. Based in Bloomington, he oversees daily operations and provides leadership and guidance to a staff of 260 employees and 47 contractors. CBP credits Olson with increasing the agency’s ability to recruit and hire through strategic management of technology and innovation.
