In 1983, Diana Mini founded Rockford-based Shark Industries, which manufactures welding supplies, abrasive cut-off wheels, and other products for automotive replacement, collision, appearance, and performance. She led her company to a 5 percent sales increase in the nine months after the Covid pandemic started, despite sales dropping nearly 50 percent one of those months. In June, Mini purchased additional equipment to boost her company’s sales even more. Some of this new equipment is automating tasks that had previously been performed mostly by hand. Mini is also on the board of the nonprofit Playworks, which develops play programs for kids.
