Marco Named One Of The Best Workplaces For Millennials
Business services company Marco was the only Minnesota company to land on the 100 Best Workplaces For Millennials, a list composed by Fortune magazine.
In the second year of the now annual list, Fortune and its research partners surveyed more than 88,000 millennials (those born roughly from the 1981 to the early 2000s) at over 600 companies that had been “certified as a Great Place to Work.” The privately owned St. Cloud business came in at number 43.
“Marco lets me manage my time on my own,” one millennial employee told the magazine. Another said they valued the flexibility to work from home and the company’s employee stock ownership plan, which ended late last year when Marco was acquired by an investment firm (employees stock ownership was transferred to a 401k plan with matching contributions).
Roughly 29 percent of the company’s 900 employees are millennials.
New York-based digital marketing company Elite SEM was deemed the top workplace for millennials. Coming in at number two was Detroit-based financial services company Quicken Loans followed by Kimley-Horn, a professional services firm from Raleigh, North Carolina, in third. Earlier this month, 3M was recognized as the “Top Dream Company” according to millennials surveyed by the National Society of High School Scholars. The Maplewood-based industrial supplies manufacturer managed to dethrone Google on the annual list. Other Minnesota companies chosen as desirable employers for millennials were Mayo Clinic (ranked 13th), UnitedHealth Group (33rd), Target Corp. (55th) and General Mills (105th).
