Local IT Co. Orbit Systems Bought by MindShift

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, and Orbit's 54 employees will join the MindShift team.

Orbit Systems, Inc., a Mendota Heights-based information technology company, has been acquired by MindShift Technologies.

Waltham, Massachusetts-based MindShift announced the purchase on Tuesday. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Both MindShift and Orbit offer cloud-computing services, and the acquisition is part of MindShift's effort to expand its presence throughout North America.

Orbit, which was founded in 1999, is a managed service provider-meaning that it acts as a virtual IT department by offering outsourced solutions to help businesses efficiently utilize technology. The company employs 54 workers and bills itself as the only provider of full IT managed services for small- and mid-sized companies in the Twin Cities metro.

Orbit founder and President Steve McFarland said in a statement that the transaction will benefit both Orbit's employees and customers. The acquisition will boost MindShift's employee count to nearly 500.

“Orbit has been a pioneer in developing cloud-based services, and they have built a great foundation on which to grow,” Paul Chisholm, MindShift chairman and CEO, said in a news release. “Their experience, depth of knowledge, and high-quality solutions will enable us to further enhance our customer offerings and continue to provide the very best customer service.”
