Land O’Lakes to Buy NY Co., Enter Chilled Desserts Market
Food and agricultural cooperative Land O’Lakes, Inc., announced Tuesday that it plans to acquire Kozy Shack Enterprises, Inc., a New York-based company that makes dairy desserts.
Land O’Lakes did not disclose financial terms of the deal, which marks the farmer-owned cooperative’s entry into chilled desserts. It expects to complete the acquisition on July 31.
Kozy Shack is a family-owned company that was founded more than 40 years ago and now employs 452. It sells its products in the United States, Canada, and Europe and has production facilities in Hicksville, New York; Turlock, California; and Lough Egish, Ireland. The company also owns and operates a logistics services company, Freshway Distributors.
“Kozy Shack is a strong strategic fit with our value-added dairy foods product portfolio,” Land O’Lakes President and CEO Chris Policinski said in a statement. “This long-time company—known for its strong brand and reputation for quality—opens the door for Land O’Lakes to achieve future growth in the attractive dairy dessert category.”
Arden Hills-based Land O’Lakes has nearly $13 billion in annual sales, making it one of the largest cooperatives in the country. It is best known for the dairy-based food products that it markets to consumers, foodservice professionals, and food manufacturers. It also sells agricultural supplies and food and animal feed ingredients to farmers and ranchers.
