For Pentair, Will Rainwater Recycling Be a Rainmaker?

For its “eco-sponsorship” of Target Field, Golden Valley–based water-systems manufacturer Pentair created a first in its history: a rainwater recycling and reuse system. It collects water from the stadium, filters it and disinfects it with ultraviolet light and chlorine, and pumps it back out to irrigate the field or clean the stands. Pentair’s Todd Gleason says the company is not aware of any competing system, “especially of this size,” that pumps, filters, and stores rainwater for immediate use.

Pentair donated its system, but Gleason says it could bring new business: “We’re evaluating opportunities at a university football stadium, and we’re in discussions with resorts. Maybe even the new Vikings stadium—time will tell.
