Capella Names Fmr. Thomson Reuters Exec. President
Minneapolis-based online college Capella University announced Thursday that it has hired former Thomson Reuters executive Scott Kinney as its new president.
Kinney will replace interim President Deborah Bushway effective January 17.
Kinney most recently served as president of New York-based Thomson Reuters Corporation's West Education Group. He has also been the president of Thomson Reuters' FindLaw division, was an executive vice president at CBS MarketWatch, and worked for eight years at The Boston Consulting Group.
“Scott brings a unique combination of leadership experience in large organizations, a history of innovation, a collaborative leadership style, and a passion for education to Capella,” Marcia Ballinger, chair of Capella's board of directors, said in a statement. “We found the right leader in Scott Kinney as Capella University seeks to build on its national reputation for academic quality and service to working adults.”
Capella said that interim President Bushway will serve as its vice president for academic innovation. She had taken over the interim job in March, when Larry Isaak quit after serving as president for just four months. Isaak had stepped down from his post to “pursue other opportunities,” the university announced at the time.
Capella is an accredited online university with a focus on degree programs for working adults. It is among Minnesota's 50-largest public companies based on revenue, which totaled $426 million in 2010.
