A Tap-Water Solution for Killing the Flu

Activeion, based in Rogers, has news for the clean, the green, and those who don’t like vaccine. The company’s Ionator cleaning products kill bacteria—and the current H1N1 influenza virus—with nothing more than tap water.

Start-up Activeion licensed the basis of its technology last May from Tennant Company in Golden Valley. Ionator spray bottles work on the same principle as Tennant’s ecH20 floor cleaners: They send a small electrical charge through water then pass the water through an ion exchange membrane. Water molecules are separated—for about 45 seconds—into a bubbly mix of positively and negatively charged ions that attract dirt and sanitize nonporous surfaces.
