Board work is a specialized universe. A place where experience and expertise honed over decades is brought to bear in service of a business. But as one of our honorees notes in these pages, it’s a “noses in, fingers out” space. Boards provide the advice; it’s up to management to consent.

The one exception is CEO searches, the sine qua non of board work. Boards earn their keep maintaining continuity when needed and being agents of change when that’s the priority.

Outstanding Directors is unique in local journalism, the sole place annually where this essential corporate function is spotlit. Our cohort of honorees was chosen from dozens of nominees submitted by a panel of specialists.
