On the job since June 2021, Tia Newcomer brings years of experience with Fortune 100s and venture-backed life-sciences startups to CaringBridge, the Eagan-based nonprofit online platform that helps families and friends stay connected through a health crisis. “My task is, ‘How do we take an amazing 25-year legacy and scale it?’” she says. She’s focused on innovating around caregivers, who have doubled in number since the onset of the pandemic. Among patients who have a caregiver, outcomes improve by 88% and hospital admissions go down 56%, according to the Center for Health Care Strategies. “Health care organizations often struggle to reach the caregiver. We have all these caregivers,” Newcomer says. “We’re starting to talk to health care organizations about creating more awareness, while staying true to what we do.”
