Being loud is more than radio schtick for Sheletta Brundidge. The local broadcaster hosts a WCCO Radio Saturday show and runs her own podcast network, Sheletta Makes Me Laugh, which produces 11 podcasts. In 2021, she called out big companies for not making good on post-George Floyd DEI pledges to make ad buys with Black-owned media. Many listened. Today, Target, General Mills, UnitedHealth Group, and Comcast are among Brundidge’s podcast advertisers, which, she says, has enabled her to buy new equipment and pay for marketing. Her next target: political campaigns. “They’re spending hundreds of millions in advertising, but they’ve got no money for Black media? Every day, I put on my boxing gloves and say, ‘Who’s next?’ ”
