A husband-and-wife team, Abdullahi and Ali both won the 2013 International Immigrant Achievement Award, and the two have made their mark in the Twin Cities by removing cultural and linguistic roadblocks. Abdullahi, a Somali immigrant, launched his first business, Midwest Career Institute, to train bilingual and bicultural healthcare employees. Soon after, he and Ali launched Language Banc, a translation and interpreting service.. He then co-founded Pro-Health Care Inc. to provide culturally appropriate caregivers for elderly patients and people with mental illness.
