Southdale Center’s $400 million makeover should be a positive for its next-door neighbor Galleria. But it’s become something of a David vs. Goliath narrative, with Southdale owner Simon Property Group plucking some of its new tenants straight from the locally owned Galleria—Tory Burch, Kate Spade, and lululemon among them. That doesn’t intimidate Jennifer Smith, who worked for Simon for 15 years before joining commercial real estate manager Hines to lease four of its properties including Galleria, which she calls “my home away from home.” Smith answered Lululemon’s exit by bringing in alo, a new-to-market activewear brand with even more buzz. Plus, home furnishing retailer Arhaus is doubling the size of its Galleria store. Smith says she has commitments for spaces that aren’t even available yet at the fully leased Galleria. “I’m fired up—2025 will be a big year for us.”
