Brian Bruess became president of a Catholic liberal arts college in Wisconsin in 2017 following a 21-year career at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, where he rose to COO. In 2022, he became the first joint president of partner institutions at the College of St. Benedict for women and St. John’s University for men in central Minnesota. He wants to “solidify the distinctive attributes of both schools while being adaptive and nimble in all things related to governance, leadership, and education.” Recognizing financial threats facing higher education, Bruess aims to “improve our core revenue, diversify our revenue, and introduce a more sophisticated and modern marketing strategy.”
