Sure, you washed your hands. But how clean will they be after you touch the door handle on your way out of the restroom?

Pretty clean, if you’re at the Guthrie, the Bulldog, or any of the other dozen or so Twin Cities venues that now have the Toepener installed on their restroom doors. Developed by Max Arndt and his classmates in the year-long entrepreneurship program at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management, the Toepener is a simple metal handle that can be mounted at the base of a door. Insert the tip of your shoe, pull the door open, and you’re out, hands free.

The 12 students who formed Forge, LLC, to develop and sell the Toepener have sold more than 200 ($50, toepener.com). Profits are donated at the end of spring semester to a charity of their choosing, then they can decide whether to buy the business from the U.
