Burgess Harrison is leading the National Minority Health Association’s mission of health equity through vaccine education hesitancy-reduction programs, clinical trial diversity, and applying the Patient Activation Measure to the health care system. Based in St. Paul, Harrison recently helped NMHA receive an $11.1 million grant from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to reduce vaccine hesitancy in underserved communities. As an albino person with two Black parents, Harrison, who also has low vision, leads the association with a personal health care journey and understands the impact of the lack of health care access.
