The work of Second Harvest Heartland has never been more important, with hunger on the rise and food shelves reporting a record 7.5 million visits in 2023. It’s why the Brooklyn Park nonprofit launched its “make hunger history” moonshot initiative to slash food shelf visits in half. Using lessons from the pandemic era, the nonprofit relies on real-time hunger data to target services to hunger hotspots and engage with partners to reduce and prevent hunger. One of the largest social service nonprofits in Minnesota, Second Harvest Heartland makes a broad impact, with more than 1,400 food shelf and program partners in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
