Description

In 2021, when entrepreneur Marc Lore and retired baseball great Alex Rodriguez were revealed as Glen Taylor’s anointed successors, jaws dropped. The partners will own 40% of the franchise by year’s end and a majority a year later, but their influence is already felt. Rather than operating as a midmarket entity with midmarket ambitions, Lore and Rodriguez are encouraging Taylor to floor it on the way out. Hiring president of basketball operations Tim Connelly from the Denver Nuggets, bringing in Michael Grady from New York as the team’s play-by-play voice, and the trade for center Rudy Gobert are all evidence of Lore’s approach: “Bring in the best talent in the world.” Rodriguez calls the Twin Cities an “underappreciated gem” and is putting his money where his mouth is, investing in local multifamily housing. He also bought a residence in a northern suburb and “plans to be here for a long time.”
