A nearly 20-year Target veteran, Christina Hennington became the retailer’s first chief growth officer in early 2021. It’s a role that has her leading Target’s strategy, merchandising, and sourcing efforts, key business areas for the company. She also oversees Target in India, an operation that employs more than 3,000 professionals from marketing and data sciences to store support. As a founding member of the company’s racial equity action and change committee, she also spearheaded Target’s program to spend $2 billion with Black-owned suppliers. After a few bruising quarters at Target, Hennington concedes the last couple years “have been hard, to be honest,” but also rewarding. “We were able to demonstrate that guests really needed Target,” she says. “We want to build on that momentum.”
