When WCCO-TV fixture Jason DeRusha walked away from a stable career anchoring morning TV news to move to an “old” medium, AM radio, many wondered if too many 3 a.m. wakeups had jarred his brain. But, in fact, DeRusha’s move to a medium where he can speak his mind was deliberate. While some anchors embody the proverbial blank slate, DeRusha always seemed like a guy chafing at the “objectivity” bit. He has a savvy sense of pop culture and a thoughtful, non-doctrinaire take on news and issues, which he can finally express. “I’m excited to mature into finding my voice in the new medium,” he says. In 2023 he plans to create a personal website and focus on mastering the digital aspects of radio, including a DeRusha Eats podcast.
