The Stable Acquires a Walmart Analytics Agency

The Retail Firm is the Minneapolis-based commerce agency's fourth acquisition since 2020.

The Stable, a commerce agency known for helping brands like Ring launch online and in major retailers including Target and Walmart, has acquired The Retail Firm, an Arkansas-based agency that provides data analytics, sales support and supply chain services to Walmart brands.

“Both businesses are extremely complimentary,” The Stable CEO Chad Hetherington said. “They had strength in categories we didn’t and vice versa.” Hetherington, whose work leadership landed him on the 2021 TCB 100 and a Heartland Division finalist in this year’s EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, said his team was particularly interested in The Retail Firm’s advanced analytics tool designed to accelerate sales and improve efficiencies.

This is The Stable’s fourth acquisition since 2020. Last year, the Minneapolis-based agency acquired retail shop Kreative, e-commerce tech company RichContext, and fellow Minneapolis sales and marketing firm Jacobs Marketing. Privately held, The Stable partnered in April with private equity firm Growth Catalyst Partners to fund its rapid expansion. The combined company will employ around 300 people with offices in Minneapolis, Seattle, and Bentonville, Ark.

The Stable already has a team dedicated to Walmart, the nation’s largest retailer. The Retail Firm will merge with that team, and the new combined group will be led by Chad Goss, a key leader from The Retail Firm. Josh Breeden, who founded the Walmart agency in 2019, will spearhead partnerships and retail technology development.

“Without question, Walmart remains a key strategy for The Stable given the acceleration in e-commerce and continued dominance in the marketplace,” Hetherington said. “This acquisition will amplify our capabilities, giving us access to more tools and talent to help drive even stronger results for the brand partners we collectively represent.”
