Face Foundrie to Open 13 Locations Along East Coast

The expansion marks the company's biggest franchise deal to date.

Eden Prairie-based facial express spa Face Foundrie on Wednesday said it has closed on a franchise deal that will add 13 new units in New Jersey and Florida. The move marks the company’s largest franchise deal to date, Face Foundrie officials said in a press release issued this week.

New Jersey’s four new locations in Hoboken, Jersey City, Edgewater, and Westfield will “complement” existing spas in Morristown and King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, the company said. Florida, which already has three Face Foundrie spas, is set to see three new locations open in Orlando, Tampa, and Palm Beach County.

Founder and CEO Michele Henry, who previously ran the Primp boutique chain in Minneapolis, opened Face Foundrie’s first location in Edina in 2019 with the goal of making making skincare inclusive and accessible. She’s currently in the midst of enlarging her first location at the Galleria.

In a statement, Face Foundrie director of performance and development Loralee Onstad said the latest franchise deal “is a huge advancement in our east coast expansion and creates an incredible launchpad to continue to bring accessible and approachable skincare across the country.”

After seeing initial success after her first store, Henry expanded the brand with locations in Minneapolis’s North Loop and Maple Grove. The company, which bills itself as the “world’s largest female-owned facial bar,” closed out 2023 with 36 locations in more than a dozen states, 14 of which opened last year. Also in 2023, Henry took home an Entrepreneur of the Year Heartland Award for her work on the brand.

The company now expects to open 25 new spas this year, led by this 13-unit deal and a recent deal to introduce Face Foundrie to the California’s San Francisco Bay Area.

Face Foundrie continues to be self-funded by Henry. However, franchising the business allows for continued expansion with initial investments of roughly $250,000-$560,000 from franchisees, according to the company.

“We’re not just redefining skincare, we’re redefining how you experience it with our franchise partners,” Onstad said.
