As Gov. Tim Walz mounts a national bid for vice president, his administration is launching a new marketing effort intended to bring more businesses to Minnesota. On Monday, Walz’s office announced a new campaign with Explore Minnesota that’s “aimed at attracting visitors, residents, and businesses to Minnesota,” according to a press release.

The campaign will feature “testimonials” from entities like Mayo Clinic Business Development, Microbiologics, Rosenbauer America, and Polar Semiconductor, which recently landed $120 million in federal funds. The campaign will run nationwide through June 2025.

“By telling the stories of companies who’ve found success in our state, we’re encouraging other businesses to look to Minnesota to grow and invest,” Walz said in the press release.

Kevin McKinnon, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, said the campaign will be used to promote the state both domestically and internationally.

“The campaign highlights Minnesota’s collaborative business ecosystems, highly developed economy, diverse base of industries and skilled workforce, and showcases the state’s many strengths including its strategic north central location, top-rated infrastructure, and proven reputation for business ingenuity and innovation,” McKinnon said.

When reached for comment, the governor’s office declined to share how much is being spent on the campaign.
