While many businesses have chosen to halt operations in Russia, others are stepping up their humanitarian efforts to aid Ukraine.

United Health Foundation, the philanthropic arm of health care giant UnitedHealth Group, announced last week it’ll provide a total of $1 million in relief efforts to support Ukraine.

Half of the aid will go toward Save The Children to provide children and families in Ukraine with immediate aid such as food, water, hygiene kits, and psychosocial support. The rest of the $500,000 will go to Direct Relief, a United Health Foundation partner on disaster response. This aid will provide emergency medical supplies, such as critical care medicine, oxygen concentrators, antibiotics, and other medical equipment to the Ukrainian Ministry of Health.

“We share deep concern for people in Ukraine amid this humanitarian crisis,” said Patricia Lewis, UnitedHealth Group chief sustainability officer, in a statement. “This donation will help provide immediate support to families in need, and we’re grateful for the work of both Save the Children and Direct Relief.”

The United Health Foundation was founded in 1999. The organization provides resources aimed at improving access to care and better health outcomes. Other recent global efforts include distributing more than 2,500 oxygen concentrators to India amid a Covid-19 wave in May.
