Serial entrepreneur Michael Walters says he’s long hoped to build a firm that’s not limited by one area of expertise or industry—he calls it “the company of ‘and.’ ” Studio 503, which ranked first in Minnesota on the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing companies in the U.S., is the embodiment of his vision. The Maple Grove-based company helps smaller businesses get their products on the shelves of major retailers like Target and Walmart. Walters also operates a separate company that manufactures its own consumer products. Outside of that, Walters does speaking and consulting work, focusing on entrepreneurship. “The opportunity to be an entrepreneur is better than it’s ever been,” he says.
