Description

2025: A shift to “value-based care”—a model where providers are paid not simply for services provided, but for actual patient outcomes—has long been bandied about in the health care industry. Megan Remark, a 30-year HealthPartners veteran who was promoted to COO in March, says that shift is imminent. “Within five years, we believe that most of how health care is reimbursed will be based on value and not volume,” she says. That also means providers will need to do a better job meeting patients where they’re at, whether in the exam room or in their homes. Her main priority, she says, is “expanding timely access to care through innovation.”

2016: Megan Remark took the reins of St. Paul’s Regions Hospital this year and is focusing on strengthening patient care while making the facility more cost-efficient. A 20-year HealthPartners veteran, she holds master’s degrees in business and health care administration from the University of Minnesota. As she leads Regions, a Level I trauma center and teaching hospital, she’s also taking steps to retain and attract the personnel she needs to effectively operate it. Remark previously led the HealthPartners Specialty Care Division, which managed development of cancer care centers.
