As director of Duluth’s Glensheen mansion for eight years, Dan Hartman led the transformation of a sleepy attraction into a happening music and special events destination for visitors and locals. In June, he was tapped to head the DECC, whose lake-facing venues include two arenas, Symphony Hall, the William A. Irvin ore boat, and Bayfront Park. Hartman’s ideas include rethinking DECC spaces to attract more music events that would lure folks from the Twin Cities (and elsewhere). Another idea: using the Irvin’s top deck as a music and movie venue. Expect the DECC to provide even more reasons to visit Duluth.
