NOTABLE PROGRAM: ELIGIBILITY, PROCESS, AND FAQS
What are the eligibility criteria?
To qualify for recognition, nominees must meet the following criteria:
- Have at least five years of experience in their current field for the majority of categories.
- Nominees do not need to reside in Minnesota full-time; however, the organization associated with their nomination must be based in Minnesota.
- For example, if nominating someone for nonprofit board service, the nonprofit organization must be MN-based, even if the nominee lives out of state.
- Demonstrate leadership in initiatives or programs that have created significant, positive, and measurable results.
- Be nominated by peers, colleagues, or individuals within the professional community. Self-nominations are not accepted.
- Individuals recognized in the previous year cannot be honored again in the current year. There is a search function in the Notables directory should you want to look up a particular individual and check their eligibility.
- An individual may only be featured in one Notable category per year.
- If multiple nominations are made from the same organization, only one nominee will be selected as an honoree per category.
What is the submission and selection process?
Step 1: Complete the nomination form.
Fill out all required fields in the online nomination form and click submit. You will receive a confirmation email within 5 minutes. Notes:
- The form does not allow you to save progress and return later, so ensure all information is accurate before submitting. Revisions will not be accepted.
- Do not submit confidential information or details that are subject to change by the publishing date.
Step 2: Editorial review, selections, and honoree notification.
The editorial team will review all submissions and make honoree selections. The honorees and their nominators will be notified approximately three weeks before publication.
Step 3: Verification and fact-checking
Within the honorees’ notification emails, they will be provided a copy of the submitted nomination materials along with a request that they fact-check the submission and provide additional information as they see fit. This will be the only opportunity for fact-checking.
Step 4: Profiles are written.
Information submitted in the nomination form is not published verbatim; rather, it serves as background material for the editorial team in crafting each honoree profile. Honoree profiles are considered editorial content and will not be available for review prior to publication.
Step 5: Profiles are published.
Each Notable category is published in a specific issue of Twin Cities Business magazine. To find the publication date for your category, refer to the editorial calendar at tcbmag.com/editcalendar. That is the date that copies are mailed to TCB subscribers. Digital profiles of honorees will be published online about a week after the print issue is mailed to subscribers. Please be patient as the profiles are uploaded. Once available, they can be found at tcbmag.com/notablehonoree.
FAQS
What is the program methodology? The individuals featured do not pay to be included. Their profiles are drawn from nomination materials. Each notable list is not comprehensive; it contains only people who were nominated and selected after editorial review. To qualify for this list, individuals must have at least five years of experience in their field and have shown the ability to effect change in their roles or areas of practice.
Where is [XYZ] category? We receive many category suggestions and often do not repeat the same categories year over year. This ensures we represent as many industries and notable individuals as possible. We do not recommend “waiting until next year” to make a nomination, as there is no guarantee the category will be published again.
What makes a strong submission? We recommend addressing some of these suggested topics in the (up to 300-word) pitch about your nominee:
- Summary of exceptional accomplishments, specific initiatives, or programs that have created significant, positive, and measurable results.
- Impact on the Minnesota community. Please list any leadership roles in non-profit groups, efforts regarding advocacy, involvement in community organizations, or leadership boards the nominee participates in.
- Define your candidate’s personal leadership style and any unique qualities they have that led to their individual success.
- Direct quotes from leadership or colleagues about the nominee go a long way.
One of the main reasons individuals are removed from consideration is due to insufficient information provided by the nominator.Â
Where can I get a copy of the magazine featuring XYZ person? All subscribers will receive a copy of the magazine in the mail. The current issue can be found on newsstands. For prior issues, a limited number of copies are available on our online storefront.
How and when can my organization share the news that my nominee has been selected?
The news of your honoree being selected is strictly confidential until the magazine is published. Once it is published, we encourage organizations to share the recognition on social media. Here are a few examples of how you can share the honor:
