It’s OK to Podcast

Why two founders teamed up to launch a show.

Larissa Loden and Andrew Vomhof are friends who love to talk business. She’s the founder and CEO of an eponymous national jewelry brand based in St. Paul; he is the co-founder and owner of Minneapolis product development studio WAAM Industries (best known for its wooden milk crates).

After years of swapping business tips, learnings, and podcast recommendations, the two decided to start a show of their own: The World’s Okayest Entrepreneur, where they share stories of “the highest highs and lowest lows of running a business and maintaining our mental health in the process.”  In true entrepreneurial fashion, they launched the podcast this summer—just eight weeks after coming up with the idea.

“In the beginning, it was like starting a business all over again,” Loden says. “It’s been so fun learning something completely new.” It’s also a way to connect with other business owners on a deeper level, adds Vomhof. “When you get to sit down with the intention of connecting, we get to have the conversations we all really crave. It’s in these moments we really get to learn from each other.”

“The podcast has given me the permission I needed to reinvest in myself.”

Speaking of learning, “starting a podcast was way more work than I expected, but it’s a challenge I am definitely happy I took on,” Vomhof says. His advice to others thinking about podcasting: “Consider the commitment, figure out what you want to get out of it, and be open to the idea’s evolution.”

The next evolution of Okayest Entrepreneur will likely be to add a YouTube channel, if Loden has her way. “I am very bullish on YouTube,” she says. “If you know me, then you know I love YouTube.” theokayestpod.com
