Founded in Mike Bauer’s basement, the company now operates across the United States. Binder Heating and Air

A fifth-generation woman-led and family-owned company, Binder Heating and Air provides HVAC service for new construction, remodeling, and commercial and residential projects.  Husband-and-wife duo Karissa and Michael Binder bought the business in 2020 from Michael’s parents. “We stand for what you think of as a family business: honesty, integrity,” Karissa says. That attitude informs culture for the entire team, including veteran employees. “We’ve also brought on new people with fresh ideas that continue to move us forward,” Karissa says.


Powers Ventures

What began when Joe Powers opened Rochester’s Canadian Honker Restaurant and Catering now includes a second restaurant, the historic Hubbell House in Mantorville, along with Rochester Event Center, J Powers at the Hilton, and Mayowood Stone Barn, and Pinnacle Catering, all under the Power Ventures umbrella; they’ve fed as many as 30,000 at a Mayo Clinic event in a single day. Joe Powers’ son Nick is president today, working with several family members and teaching the next generation. “We take care of the employee first,” Nick says. “If we take care of them, they will then take care of the customer.”


Supply Chain Solutions

After 15 years in the transportation industry, Josh Halgrimson started Supply Chain Solutions to better meet customer needs, offering customized logistics solutions for every client. Sixteen years later, the company is approaching $50 million in annual sales. Halgrimson’s wife, Angela, is principal, with a focus on vision and growth, son Blake is director of managed transportation, and son Jack provides operations and executive support. Halgrimson will continue to focus on customer relationships.


Sonus Interiors

Founded by Mike Reinhart as a ceiling installation company for commercial buildings, Sonus Interiors has evolved into a full-service subcontractor that provides interior finishes for commercial spaces including flooring, tile, and window treatments. Mike remains active in the business, while his daughter, Jessica Scrabeck, now leads the company as president. Her husband, Chris Scrabeck, oversees the ceiling division, and her sister, Chelsea Olafson, plays an integral role in the company. “Being a family business allows us to value our employees differently than in a corporate setting, which is one of the reasons why employees stay with [Sonus] for over 20 years,” Jessica says.
