Powers Ventures

What began when Joe Powers opened Rochester’s Canadian Honker Restaurant and Catering now includes a second restaurant, the historic Hubbell House in Mantorville, along with Rochester Event Center, J Powers at the Hilton, and Mayowood Stone Barn, and Pinnacle Catering, all under the Power Ventures umbrella; they’ve fed as many as 30,000 at a Mayo Clinic event in a single day. Joe Powers’ son Nick is president today, working with several family members and teaching the next generation. “We take care of the employee first,” Nick says. “If we take care of them, they will then take care of the customer.”

Her husband, Chris Scrabeck, oversees the ceiling division, and her sister, Chelsea Olafson, plays an integral role in the company. “Being a family business allows us to value our employees differently than in a corporate setting, which is one of the reasons why employees stay with [Sonus] for over 20 years,” Jessica says.
