Dayton Declares November As “Family Business Awareness Month”
Gov. Mark Dayton officially declared November as “Family Business Awareness Month” throughout Minnesota in a proclamation signed recently.
Dayton noted in the proclamation that family businesses—whether mom-and-pop establishments or Fortune 500 corporations—make up 90 percent of U.S. businesses today. Family-owned businesses also employ 80 percent of the U.S. workforce and represents roughly 49 percent of the U.S. GDP.
Every November, TCB honors family-owned businesses at its Minnesota Family Business Awards, the state’s only program that honors five notable Minnesota companies and examines how they handle the joys and challenges of running a business.
This year’s honorees are profiled here, and include:
Each honoree will be recognized on Tuesday, November 17 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis starting at 5:30 p.m. during TCB’s Minnesota Family Business Awards event.
