For the sixth consecutive year, Anytime Fitness, LLC, was named the world’s fastest-growing fitness club by The International Health, Racquet, and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA), based on the rate it added locations last year.
The IHRSA, a trade association that serves the health and fitness industries, surveyed more than 240 companies for its 2013 “Global 25” list, which represents the fastest-growing and/or largest club companies based on revenue, members, number of locations, and other metrics.
Hastings-based Anytime Fitness ranked first in “unit growth,” having added 260 new locations in 2012. The franchise currently operates 2,035 clubs—a 15 percent increase over 2011.
“The growth of Anytime Fitness demonstrates there is strong demand from consumers for companies that meet their expectations,” IHRSA President and CEO Joe Moore said in a statement.
In addition to unit growth, Anytime Fitness ranked highly in revenue growth and number of members. It ranked second for revenue growth with $484 million in 2012 revenue—a 33 percent increase over $365 million in 2011. Buckinghamshire, England-based Virgin Active ranked first, with $1 billion in 2012 revenue—a 22 percent increase over $851 million in 2011.
Anytime Fitness ranked third based on its number of members (1.5 million in 2012), behind Carlsbad, California-based 24 Hour Fitness USA, Inc., (3.8 million) and Waco, Texas-based Curves International, Inc., (2 million).
