What is company culture? For Tanja Oquendo, whom Minneapolis-based Fairview appointed chief people officer in August, it’s “how we do business.” It’s a simple idea, but “it entails everything, particularly how we take care of our patients.” Oquendo came to Fairview from Chicago-based CommonSpirit, one of the country’s largest nonprofit health systems. Oquendo will be “identifying the attributes in the organization that aren’t helpful and identifying those that further enhance it.” Along with creating a more integrated HR function, she wants to help make Fairview “ultra-competitive,” not only for patients but also for employees.
