Since moving to Duluth 10 years ago, Sumair Sheikh has been widely active in the city’s education and nonprofit realms. In June, he took the helm of the Duluth office of the Local Initiatives Support Corp. (LISC). He’ll be building on LISC Duluth’s long-established work in community development and alternative lending, including implementation of the newly launched $16 million Housing Trust Fund to develop much-needed affordable housing. He’ll also be focusing on the nonprofit’s Wealth, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Sustainability working group, which is charting career and entrepreneurship pathways for Duluth’s BIPOC communities.
