Sean Sweeney has become a voluble presence on X, talking about his firm’s infill work and offering advice to would-be developers, but his backstory is just as interesting—including stints in improv comedy, as a receptionist at a San Francisco development company, and in finance. After a 2016 full of personal trials, he decided to leave finance and start his own development company. Hall Sweeney has designed 10 projects in Minneapolis, many of them award-winning. Social media gets him 30 emails a day from would-be developers, so he’s started a newsletter and will soon debut a MasterClass. Hall Sweeney focuses on design and community engagement, and it builds to own, rare for an apartment developer. It’s not a great market locally, so in 2025 Sweeney will explore opportunities in other markets until conditions improve here.
