Rebecca Cunningham occupied a diverse set of roles at the University of Michigan before she began her appointment in July as president of the University of Minnesota. She’s currently charting a five- to 10-year strategic visioning process that includes a health sciences plan, reinvesting in the university workforce, and maximizing the impact of the university’s five campuses. While the educational mission is certainly important, she says she wants to remain mindful of the essential role of discovery and research: “How the university contributes to the economic impact of the state, to the health of communities, to the service of the health care workforce—it’s a big enchilada.”
