More than a century after the Dorsey law firm was founded, Peter Nelson is charged with growing a firm that has 650 attorneys worldwide. He became the firm’s managing partner in July and is based in Minneapolis, where 210 attorneys work. “I don’t plan to set number or percentage goals for growth,” Nelson says, because any new attorneys must align with client needs and the firm’s culture. “We have been successful in bringing in small groups of attorneys who have a dedicated following among key clients,” he notes. Health care, litigation, and mergers and acquisitions are areas where Nelson envisions firm growth in the coming year.
