Marielle Mohs grew up in the Twin Cities, was a high school athlete at Benilde-St. Margaret's, and then went into TV news, anchoring and reporting in Little Rock and St. Louis before coming to WCCO as a general assignment reporter before the pandemic. By 2023 she was burnt out “from talking to people on the worst day of their lives.” She was ready to leave TV news when her boss suggested she consider a sports opening at the station. Mohs was encouraged to cover what her colleagues couldn’t get to, and frequently it was women’s sports. She’s found a new life: “I am so over controversy and love these stories of triumph and resilience.” She’s built a franchise covering women’s athletics and next year hopes to turn WCCO into a hub for it, noting “people now rely on us to show up.”
