“It’s important to have anchor institutions that people can count on,” says Malik Rucker, a fifth-generation North Minneapolis resident. That’s what the V3 Center, a North Minneapolis health and wellness center, aims to be. The center opened in June with a fitness floor, a 25-yard pool, and a 55-seat restaurant (in partnership with Soul Bowl), along with a Boys and Girls Club location. Rucker is overseeing a capital campaign for phase two, which will quintuple the size of the center. Rucker didn’t grow up far from V3. “To be in the community and connect wellness, education, fitness, and economic impact all in one space means a lot,” he says.
