The Market at Malcolm Yards is the OG of the surviving local food halls and arguably the most successful. The genre has had its L’s locally (Keg & Case, North Loop Galley, the nascent Dayton’s hall) but John and Patty Wall aren’t done. She’s partnered with Hempel real estate to develop food halls at Hempel’s LaSalle Plaza in the old Rock Bottom space and at the West End in St. Louis Park, and she sees both opening in 2027 (they require a carve-out in state alcohol laws at the 2026 legislature). Patty notes 60% of Malcolm Yards customers are there for the first time, so the concept is still new to many. John successfully developed housing at Malcolm, but given market conditions, he says his next steps at Malcolm are a light show on the United Crushers grain elevators, a new parking lot, two new city parks, and an addition to The Grand Rounds Regional Trail system.
