Greg McGee wakes up at 5 a.m. to paint—a watercolor, a portrait. “I haven’t really landed on a style,” McGee says, and, in fairness, he’s not a professional artist. A career innovator who has boomeranged between startups and corporate roles, he was brought in by UnitedHealthcare two years ago to connect problem solvers with new opportunities. While most of United's 380,000 employees are siloed, McGee works “across the enterprise” on projects as diverse as a new insulin drug and corporate culture. He’s also got his own startup, the digital platform Epilogg, which is a modern alternative to the print obituary. How does he juggle it all? Painting. “It takes your brain to a different place. It’s really important to ground my day.”
