Under Glenn Zerbe’s leadership, New Ulm-based telecommunications provider Nuvera is undertaking a huge $250 million effort to bring fiber connections to every community it serves. It’s the company’s largest infrastructure project to date. By the start of 2025, Zerbe expects that about 64% of Nuvera’s customers will have access to fiber communications, up from just 7% at the beginning of the project in 2021. In the digital era, Zerbe sees fiber as an essential economic engine for rural communities. His aim, he says, is to erase the digital divide between rural and urban Minnesota.
