After starring in the Whitney Biennial in 2022 and receiving a MacArthur “genius grant” in 2023, multidisciplinary artist Dyani Whitehawk continued her prolific pace in 2024. She installed Nourish, a large tile mosaic made in collaboration with Mercury Mosaics in the Whitney Museum; built a glass mosaic with renowned stained-glass company Mayer of Munich, to be installed in a reimagined Fraser Hall on the University of Minnesota campus; and created several new works as part of a career-spanning exhibition that will open at the Walker next October. Whether working with painted canvas, beaded panels, sculpture, mosaic, or multimedia projection, Whitehawk is pushing Native American contemporary art to the center of the art world.
